I am really excited to start a blog in my classroom, but I'm not sure yet how I want to get started. I looked at some sample blogs from Blogs and Blogging on our class site. Mrs. Schmidt has a great blog that seems like it would be very effective for parent communication, but she doesn't seem to have her students comment on her blog. Mrs. Alaniz has a more student-friendly blog, but her students don't seem to reply to many of her posts.
I think I would like to use my blog with students instead of just parent communication, but maybe it would be better to start by using to to just share information since it is new to me? I began setting up a blog on kidblog. It seems really easy to use so far. I'm not sure if I should have my students create their own blogs or just have them log in to the class page to comment on posts. Does anyone know how that works or have suggestions for blogging with fourth graders?
I am trying to figure out the same thing. It was easy to get my account started and now I am in the process of adding students. I think that for now we are just going to use it as a communication device between us. My goal is to eventually figure out how to put gumball homework logs on there for them to access at home.
ReplyDeleteOk so I have been thinking about this whole blogging idea with my third graders, although I truly believe that I need to become more advanced with my use of blogs first before I even think about bringing it into the classroom. I do like Allison's idea of using it as a communication device first and easing into this idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Judy's Manchester cohort of this class, and I teach fifth grade. I decided to jump right in with kidblog, and I started just by teaching my kids how to log in and create a post about their favorite books. It went really well, and the kids are actually more adept at it than we think they are (my kids have been begging to post pictures and comment on each other's blogs since their first post). Kidblog is really easy to use, and your kids will probably love it.
ReplyDeleteElena, you are very brave! I am sure my kids would love it. I think part of what I'm afraid of is that they will probably be more advanced blogging than I am! Keep me updated on how blogging is going with your class. I am still in the beginning stages of creating a class blog. Have fun with your class blog!
